We receive the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God and as the sole authority in matters of Faith and Practice. It's understanding of Christian truth as therein contained is expressed by the following Declaration of Faith:
- THE BIBLE
- JESUS CHRIST
- THE HOLY SPIRIT
- SATAN AND FALLEN ANGELS
- THE CHURCH
- LAST THINGS
- CHURCH AND STATE
1. THE BIBLE Back
We believe that the Bible is God's Word; that it was written by men divinely inspired; and that it is the supreme infallible authority in all matters of Faith and Conduct. We believe that all portions of Scripture are equally inspired and contain no contradiction; and that the canon (the 66 books of the Bible) is complete. (We believe that the Scriptures have been providentially preserved in the Masoretic Old Testament Hebrew Text and in the Traditional New Testament Greek Text, of which texts the King James Bible is the most faithful translation). II Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 1:1, II Peter 1:20-21; Revelation 22:18-19.
2. GOD Back
We believe in God the Father, who is perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, and measureless in power. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs or men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections; and that they are worthy of precisely the same homage, confidence, and obedience. Genesis 1:26; John 1:1, John 14:16-17; I Timothy 3:16.
3. JESUS CHRIST Back
We believe in the essential deity and virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ; that He was begotten by the Holy Spirit; that He was born of the virgin Mary, not having human father; that He was sinless in His life; and that He is true God and true man. We believe that He is man's only hope of salvation from sin, being the only mediator between God and man; that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day for our sins according to the Scriptures; that His return for His Church (the body of Christ), which He will take with Himself into Heaven, is imminent; and that He will come to this earth to set up His millennial reign. Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-4; John 10:30; John 14:6; I Timothy 2:5,6; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20:4-6.
4. THE HOLY SPIRIT Back
We believe that the Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and with the Son; that He is a person; that He came to this earth as the fulfillment of Christ's promise; and that He convicts, regenerates, indwells, seals, fills, empowers, and guides the believer. John 16:7-13; John 3:3-5; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 6:19; Ephesians 1:13; Ephesians 5:18.
5. MAN Back
We believe that God created man in His own image; and that man sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is conscious and eternal separation from God. We believe that all men are born with a sinful nature, evidenced by sinful acts; that man is totally depraved; and that, if he is not born again, he is eternally lost. Genesis 1:26-27; Psalms 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Luke 16:23; Revelation 21:8; Romans 3:10-23, etc.
6. SALVATION Back
We believe that a person is eternally saved when he repents of his sin and exercises faith by accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior; and that the believer is kept by the power of God and is eternally secure in Christ. We believe that the scope of salvation includes forgiveness of all our sins (past, present, and future), a perfect standing before God as in Jesus Christ, and the changing of our earthly body to be conformed like unto the body of our Lord at His return for his own. We believe that enmity toward God is eternally fixed at death; and that there is an appointed day for the judgment of the wicked when they will be cast into the Lake of Fire and will remain there in everlasting conscious punishment and torment. John 1:12; John 5:24; John 10:28-29; Romans 6:23; II Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8-9; I John 5:17; Romans 8:19-23; I John 3:2; II Thessalonians 1:7-9; Hebrews 9:27; II Peter 2:9, etc.
7. SATAN AND FALLEN ANGELS Back
We believe that Satan is a fallen angel; that he was created perfect but sinned and became the arch enemy of God and His creation; and that he is the chief adversary of God's children. We believe that Satan seeks to keep man from God, and when he cannot succeed in this, he seeks to weaken the testimony of Christians; that he has a great host of fallen angels and demons to carry out his purposes; that he is not omnipotent and can be overcome by the power of God; and that his doom is sealed in the Lake of Fire for ever and ever. Ezekiel 28:12-19; Isaiah 14:12-14; Revelation 12:10; Revelation 20:10.
8. THE CHURCH Back
The Church as the Body of Christ: We believe that the Church in this sense is composed of all believers in Jesus Christ from the Day of Pentecost until the coming of the Lord for the Church; that the Body of Christ is being formed by the Holy Spirit placing them into the Body of which the Bible speaks; and that, when this Body is complete, the Lord will come for it and take it to Himself as His Bride.
The Local Church: We believe that the local church is composed of a local group of believers who are autonomous; that it has no ecclesiastical organizations in authority over it; and that it is completely independent. We believe that the local church is composed of believers who are baptized by immersion; who are organized and have for their officers pastors, deacons, and such other leaders as God has given special gifts to render as a ministry to the Church; who meet regularly for fellowship, worship, and Bible study; who observe the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper; and who carry out the Great Commission. I Corinthians 12:13; Acts 2; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; I Corinthians 16:19; Hebrews 10:25; I Corinthians 11:23; Matthew 28:18-20.
The Purity of the Church: In this day of compromise and apostasy, we stand for the fundamentals of Bible faith and evangelism. We believe that individual Christians should strive to live separate from the moral contamination so prevalent today. We are to avoid the very appearance of evil (I Thessalonians 5:22; Titus 2:12-14). We oppose the modern Ecumenical Movement as being unscriptural. the Church of Jesus Christ should have a distinct testimony in this sin-darkened world. We further believe that the modern day Charismatic Movement is not in accord with the Bible. We believe that certain gifts were bestowed in the early days of Christianity that were temporary in nature. These gifts included tongues, prophecy and certain miracle gifts relating to the advent of the new dispensation. By the time the New Testament was completed, these gifts had fulfilled their purpose and were terminated. I Corinthians 13:8-10. (This last paragraph appears in the "Church Covenant" of Fairview Baptist Church).
9. LAST THINGS Back
We believe that there will be a resurrection of all, first of the just at the coming of Jesus Christ, and finally of the unjust after the millenium; that the saints will be raised to be forever with the Lord; and that the unsaved will be confined for eternity in the Lake of Fire. We believe in the "Blessed Hope" (the Rapture), which is the personal, bodily, Pre-Tribulational, Pre-Millenial, and imminent return of our Lord and Saviour for His Church, and in His later return (the Revelation) to the earth in power and glory with His saints to set up His Kingdom (the Millenium). John 14:1-3; Acts 1:9, 11; Acts 24:15; I Corinthians 15:20-52; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20:1-6, etc.
10. CHURCH AND STATE Back
We believe that every human being is responsible to God alone in all matters of faith; that each church is independent and autonomous and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority; and therefore, that church and state must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from the dictation or patronage of the other. Matthew 4:4; Matthew 22:21; Acts 4:18-20; Acts 5:28-29; Romans 13:1-7.
11. CREATION Back
We believe that the Genesis account of creation is to be accepted literally and not figuratively; that the six days of creation in Genesis Chapter One, were solar days, that is, twenty-four hour days; that all animal and vegetable life was made directly, and God's established law is that they bring forth only "after their kind"; that man was created directly in God's own image and after His own likeness and did not evolve from any lower form of life.
